What It Is

A replacement tooth that acts like a real tooth.

A dental implant is a small titanium post that is placed into the jawbone to replace the root of a missing tooth. Once the implant integrates with the bone, a custom crown is attached to it — creating a tooth replacement that looks, feels, and functions like a natural tooth.

Unlike a bridge, an implant does not require grinding down the neighboring teeth. Unlike a removable denture, it stays in your mouth permanently. With proper care, dental implants are the most durable tooth replacement option available — and the closest thing modern dentistry has to a natural tooth.

Blaskovich Family Dental plans every implant placement using CBCT 3D cone-beam imaging. This lets Dr. Mark see your jawbone, sinuses, and nerves in three dimensions before surgery, choose the optimal implant size and angle, and place it predictably.

The Process

How implant treatment works at our office.

  1. 01

    Consultation and 3D imaging

    60 min

Dr. Mark examines the area, takes a CBCT 3D scan of your jaw, and reviews your medical history. The scan shows bone volume, nerve and sinus position, and lets us plan the implant placement in software before any surgery happens.

  2. 02

    Treatment plan and preparation

    1–2 weeks

You'll receive a written treatment plan with timeline, costs, and insurance estimate. If a tooth needs to be extracted or bone grafting is needed, that's scheduled first. Many cases proceed straight to implant placement.

  3. 03

    Implant placement

    60–90 min

Under local anesthetic (sedation available if you prefer), Dr. Mark places the titanium implant into the jawbone. Most patients describe it as easier than expected — comparable to a routine extraction. You go home the same day with simple aftercare instructions.

  4. 04

    Healing and integration

    3–6 months

The implant fuses with your bone in a process called osseointegration. During this time you wear a temporary tooth (or nothing, if it's a back tooth). You eat, work, and live normally. Healing checkups are quick.

  5. 05

    Final crown placement

    1–2 visits

Once the implant has fully integrated, a digital impression is taken and a custom porcelain crown is fabricated to match your other teeth. The crown is attached to the implant. You walk out with a permanent, fully functional tooth.

When You Need One

Implants make sense when…

Dental implants are a strong option for most patients with one or more missing teeth. Common scenarios:

  • A single missing tooth

Replace one tooth without affecting the neighbors — unlike a bridge.

  • Multiple missing teeth

Implant-supported bridges replace several teeth in a row.

  • Loose dentures

Implants stabilize a denture so it stops slipping during eating or speaking.

  • Full-arch replacement

All-on-4 or All-on-6 replaces an entire arch of teeth on as few as four implants.

  • A failing tooth that can't be saved

When extraction is unavoidable, an implant restores function long-term.

  • You want to preserve bone

Implants stimulate the jawbone and prevent the bone loss that happens after extraction.

FAQ

Dental Implants — questions answered.

  • How much does a dental implant cost in Pueblo West?

A complete single dental implant in the Pueblo West area — including the implant, abutment, and crown — typically ranges from approximately $3,500 to $5,500. Costs vary based on whether bone grafting is needed, the implant location, and your insurance. Blaskovich Family Dental provides written estimates after your consultation and CBCT scan.

  • How long does the implant process take from start to finish?

Most single dental implant cases take 3 to 6 months from initial placement to final crown. The timeline depends on bone quality, healing speed, and whether grafting is required. The actual chair time across all visits is typically less than 4 hours total.

  • Are dental implants painful?

The implant placement itself is performed under local anesthetic and most patients report less pain than they expected — comparable to a routine tooth extraction. Mild soreness and swelling for 2–3 days afterward is common and is managed with over-the-counter ibuprofen. Sedation options are available for patients with significant anxiety.

  • Does insurance cover dental implants?

Coverage varies. Some PPO insurance plans cover a portion of the implant placement and/or crown — typically 25–50%. Many plans cover none of the implant itself but do cover the crown. Blaskovich Family Dental's team will verify your specific benefits and provide a clear estimate before treatment begins.

  • How long do dental implants last?

With proper care, dental implants are designed to last a lifetime. Studies show 10-year success rates above 95%. The crown attached to the implant typically lasts 10 to 15 years before needing replacement, similar to any other crown.

  • Am I a candidate for a dental implant?

Most adults in good general health with adequate jawbone are candidates. Smokers, people with uncontrolled diabetes, and patients with significant bone loss may need additional planning, but rarely are implants ruled out entirely. Dr. Mark's consultation and CBCT scan will tell you definitively whether implants are right for your situation.

  • What happens if I don't replace a missing tooth?

When a tooth is missing, the surrounding teeth gradually shift, the opposing tooth can over-erupt, and the jawbone in that area starts to shrink. Over years this can affect your bite, your face shape, and the long-term health of nearby teeth. Implants prevent this by stimulating the bone and holding the space.

  • Can implants be done in one day?

In some cases yes. "Same-day" or "immediate load" implants are possible when bone quality is excellent and the implant achieves strong initial stability. More commonly, the implant is placed and allowed to integrate for 3–4 months before the final crown is attached — this gives the most predictable, long-lasting result.
